Baby Shower at Safeco

Sunday, April 27, my mom and her (sweet) suite staff hosted a wonderful baby shower at Safeco Field. We also celebrated my plunge into the dirty 30s.

The Mullets, the Bruces, my family and my family's friends were all there to help celebrate baby Mullet. We are so grateful to those who traveled near and far to make the special day. Thank you to all of you for sharing this wonderful moment with Matt and I! And a special thanks to Cindy and my mom for coordinating such a fun event and decorating the suite so nicely.

A cherry tomato martini! Yum! Cherry tomatoes have been my biggest craving.

34-Week Update: Saying "I Do" to a Doula

Matt and I met a birthing doula in Wallingford yesterday, and we are excited to announce that we have decided to bring her on board the Mullet baby delivery train. Her name is Laura Sanderson. She was a referral of two of my co-workers who have had babies in the last year. Extremely calm, positive and gentle natured, we are confident she'll be just the birthing coach & cheerleader we'll need.

We talked to a lot of friends and family about this. Our friends who never had a doula didn't feel it was necessary. Our friends who did have a doula couldn't say enough great things about it. True, it's not necessary to have a doula in order to give birth. But, just like any service you're willing and able to pay for, it's there to lessen your stress.

For those who are unaware of a doula's purpose (I certainly was until a few short months ago!), a quick breakdown: A doula is essentially there to provide emotional and physical assistance during labor and delivery to the mother and father. Think of it as a personal nurse. Whether it's visiting your house for support if you need her to prior to going to the hospital, being in the delivery room for the long haul serving as a birthing assistant to dad, serving as a messenger for anxious family members, an educator in the delivery room (i.e. explaining medical terminology you may not understand), or making post-delivery visits at your home to answer any questions you may have or just to simply support you--a doula is there for you from beginning to end to offer support. Laura is also a licensed massage therapist, so she provides massage during contractions if needed. Okay, I'll take that thank you!

As first timers, we're not quite sure what to expect. We are not taking a birthing class, so it'll be nice to have a calm presence in the room to help explain things and offer breathing techniques.

At 34 weeks, Mom and baby are peachy keen. Baby is head down, butt up. (My ribs could have told you that!) Baby gets the hiccups every time I eat...and I mean every time. I find this to be very amusing and cute. I'm now signing baby up for yoga classes, as its new favorite thing to do in there is the downward dog.

The nursery is coming together and we are getting ready!

Hugs to you all.

My First Baby Shower

After many years of attending my friends' precious baby showers, I finally got to attend my own! Nona, my friend of 17 years, hosted a baby shower at my abode Saturday, April 19. We played games, shared funny stories, opened gifts and, most importantly, ate food and cake! I want to thank all the friends who braved the questionable April weather and attended the shower. And a special thanks to Nona for pulling off the best logistical planning ever, all while 5 months pregnant herself. All the gifts were thoughtful, fun to open and sweet as can be. Okay, I guess boobie protectors and boob lube aren't as sweet as a teeny-tiny onesie, but hey...they are darn functional and they are gonna be sweet for me during my midnight Vegas-style buffet feedings!

New Orleans 2008

Our trip to New Orleans was fantastic! We flew down to attend Jared and Tanya's wedding. (Jared is my sister-in-law's brother.) The wedding (and the bride) was beautiful and the food was very tasty! Jared and Tanya were such gracious hosts. They even partied with us the whole night before jetting off to Hawaii for the honeymoon.

The weather in N.O. was hot and humid and the food was rich and oh-so-filling. The "locals" were genuine and warm. Our hotel, the Inn on Bourbon, was in the heart of the French Quarter overlooking Bourbon and Toulouse Streets. Although extremely loud at night, it was a nice place. The location made up for all the noise. Notable restaurants visited: K-Pauls, Petunia's, Irene's, Chartres St. House Cafe and, of course, Cafe DuMonde for beignets and coffee. Notable plates: gumbo, crawfish cakes, the BEST Pecan Pie ever, Pralines, Lasagna and lobster rice. The creme brulee at Irene's was the best I've ever had. Although we walked around quite a bit, I think I gained 5 pounds in 5 days. Not a hard task when you're almost 8 months pregnant! We decided to splurge a bit and bought three exquisite pieces of art from two galleries on Royal Street. We walked the French Market a couple times, and Steve and Bonnie paid for a trip on a mule-laden carriage ride, my first carriage ride ever!

30-Week Prego Update

"That's some belly!"

Why, yes. It is! We are now just 10 weeks-ish or 2.5 months away from D-day. Aside from looking like I swallowed my bowling ball (picture to post shortly), I'm feeling just fine. We successfully made it to Lake Las Vegas and back last week. A little R&R never hurt anybody, especially a 7-month preggers. It was bone-chilling 85 degrees and just gorgeous. We even made it down to the strip a couple times. (Me = once, Matt = twice) Let's just say my belly was giving those frisky spring breakers something to think about while partying it up with booze and sex in Sin City.

Baby should now be around 3 pounds and approx. 14 inches long or so. It moves almost constantly. We might need to sign baby up for boxing classes before it's even born. I think it's a natural. My sweet friend Nona is throwing me a baby shower this month, and my mama is, too. Baby feels so loved already!

We are off to New Orleans this Friday for Jared and Tanya's lovely wedding! We can't wait to see these two and spend more time in the hot, hot sun. I, especially, can't wait for the food.

Cheers to all of you. Hope life treats you well.
