Our trip to New Orleans was fantastic! We flew down to attend Jared and Tanya's wedding. (Jared is my sister-in-law's brother.) The wedding (and the bride) was beautiful and the food was very tasty! Jared and Tanya were such gracious hosts. They even partied with us the whole night before jetting off to Hawaii for the honeymoon.
The weather in N.O. was hot and humid and the food was rich and oh-so-filling. The "locals" were genuine and warm. Our hotel, the Inn on Bourbon, was in the heart of the French Quarter overlooking Bourbon and Toulouse Streets. Although extremely loud at night, it was a nice place. The location made up for all the noise. Notable restaurants visited: K-Pauls, Petunia's, Irene's, Chartres St. House Cafe and, of course, Cafe DuMonde for beignets and coffee. Notable plates: gumbo, crawfish cakes, the BEST Pecan Pie ever, Pralines, Lasagna and lobster rice. The creme brulee at Irene's was the best I've ever had. Although we walked around quite a bit, I think I gained 5 pounds in 5 days. Not a hard task when you're almost 8 months pregnant! We decided to splurge a bit and bought three exquisite pieces of art from two galleries on Royal Street. We walked the French Market a couple times, and Steve and Bonnie paid for a trip on a mule-laden carriage ride, my first carriage ride ever!
