Georgia 2011

Moss-covered trees in Savannah, GA. Just like the books.

We returned from a magnificent trip to Georgia about a week ago. Nine glorious days of disconnection and connection all at the same time. No TV, no Facebook (Well, maybe a little status update or photo load here and there) and no time commitments. Just 9 days with my darling family.

Emily was a Georgia peach the entire trip - happy as can be for both flights, both 6-hour car rides to and fro, and happy as a little clam to stay at the beach house.

The trip started out with a 2-night stay at Twelve Hotel in downtown Atlanta. Starbucks and The Gap were within 5 minutes of my room. If I believed in an actual fluffy cloud heaven, this is what it'd look like. :)

My cousin, Brian, was getting married. The wedding was beautiful. The food and spirits were amazing. And the bride, oh the bride. I can never tire of admiring the beauty of a glowing bride. Justine looked amazing. Unfortunately, I only had my phone camera (with no flash), so my pictures turned out less than stellar. Emily had a good time with the flower girl, Kayla, also around 3ish years old. They danced until 10 p.m. - both with no naps during the day. This, people, is a feat!

We packed up after the wedding, with Grammy along for the ride and stay, and drove 6 hours south to St. Simons Island. This charming lil' place is located on the Georgia coast, about 1 hour north of Jacksonville, FL.

Who knew one would get such a tropical experience in Georgia?

Our plans consisted of eating, sleeping, building sand castles (well, Matt and Em's plan) and eating again. There may have been a few adult beverages in those plans, as well. Me and Ma like our vino! It was heaven. We only had TV for one night because the cable went out. So, we made lemonade out of our lemon, catching up with eachother, reading, relaxing in the sun and sand, and spending LOADS of quality time with Emily.

If you find yourself in North Florida, take a trip north to St. Simons Island. You won't regret it!

This was the Sea Turtle hospital on Jekyll Island. These creatures are really amazing.
It takes a lot of perseverance to survive as a thriving sea turtle. Some live for up to 80 years!

Oh I have always wanted to go to Savannah - all that old world charm! Looks like you guys had a gorgeous holiday... Sometimes no TV is a blessing; we spent four months in Zurich without it and hardly missed it at all (after the first week or so of serious withdrawal:)...
Love you three Xx
